On December 8th, 2009, my husband died by taking his own life at the age of 43.
For many of us who have been affected by suicide, questions remain painfully unanswered. This dress was made in response to my grief – a nightgown made out of Japenese Gampi tissue paper was delicately constructed and was suspended lit to suggest an absence. The pattern may be not be noticed by some, but on engaging, the line comments on the route that my late husband may have taken from our home to the place that he died.
4304 is the number of men who ended their lives through suicide in 2009. It is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50.
